Question: Why should I remove my temporary internet files ?

Answer:  When you visit websites "cookies" are placed on your computer.  These "cookies" help

websites track what sites you have been to. By removing these files periodically your viewing history is erased.

Question: What does the disk defragment utility do ? Why should I run it ?

Answer:  When you save an e-mail, picture or any other computer file your computer saves it in the

first available spot on your hard drive.  As you use your computer more and more files become

fragmented (ie broken up).  This microsoft provided utility groups similar files together thus increasing the

efficiency of your computers hard drive.

Question: What should I do for basic Weekly maintenance ? Monthly ? Yearly ?

Answer:  On a weekly basis you should update your virus definitions.

These are the files that your anti-virus software uses to find and remove new viruses.  Anti-spyware updates should be done at this time as well.

On a monthly basis you should run the defrag utility.

On a yealy basis the cover should be removed and compressed air should be used to remove the "dust

bunnies that have made a home in your computer
